As a result, there is a great deal of controversy over whether his books should be taught in school. Author Michelle M. Houle discusses Twain's life and times and analyzes two of his best known books. She also explores the history of book censorship, outlining why it occurs and possible ways to address it. In short, these books convey basic truths about human experience that are as meaningful in our day as they were in the mid-nineteenth century.

What does the heart do? Why does it beat? What is a pulse? Up until the 17th century, most believed that blood sloshed around the body like ocean tides. Then the English physician William Harvey showed the world that the heart is actually a pump, and that blood circulates throughout the body. This marked one of the greatest advances in the study of medicine.
