Great Elementary Non-Fiction for Thanksgiving (and you can win them!)

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and it's a great time for kids to learn about Thanksgiving while building their literacy skills. Enslow Publishers' non-fiction expert authors believe that reading informational texts should  be educational and fun.  With that in mind, here are three great, Common Core correlated, Thanksgiving books to make sure that young readers have an educational and fun Thanksgiving.  As a side note: if you like any of these books, be sure to check out our Pick-A-Page giveaway (details at the end of the post).

Thanksgivng Day, by Dorothy Goeller, is a delightfully silly reader for children just beginning to read. Featuring bright illustrations and simple text with one sentence per page, Thanksgiving Day is great for kids reading alone or with an adult. Common Core Correlations for Thanksgiving Day can be found here.
Storyteller Randel McGee's Paper Crafts for Thanksgiving shows young readers how to make their own Thanksgiving crafts while learning about the holiday.  Paper Crafts for Thanksgiving contains easy step-by-step instructions as well as reproducible templates for all of the crafts shown in the book.  Common Core Correlations for Paper Crafts for Thanksgiving can be found here.
What is Thanksgiving?, by Elaine Landau, introduces early readers to the traditions of Thanksgiving with beautiful photos and carefully crafted text.  To further engage the reader, What is Thanksgiving? features an activity where the reader constructs a "Thank-You" poster to give their thanks to the community for Thanksgiving. Common Core Correlations for What is Thanksgiving? can be found here.

Our Pick-A-Page Giveaway is still going on!  To enter the giveaway, go to our e-catalog and pick a page of titles you would like to receive for free. Like us on Facebook and leave a comment on Facebook, letting us know which page you would like to receive, and how those books would benefit your school/library. Free book giveaway

Library ISBN 978-0-7660-3785-4
Paper ISBN 978-1-59845-375-1
One of our history series, Ye Yucky Middle Ages, was written because librarians told us that they were looking for books that would teach students about life in the middle ages, but yet had some fun illustrations. This series is great for reluctant readers and is available in both library binding and paperback.

What is the most requested topic you get from students? For our free book giveaway, like us on Facebook and leave a comment on Facebook, letting us know what topic is most requested. One winner will be chosen by random at the end of the week, and that person will receive a free copy of an Enslow book of their choice. The winner will be announced on Facebook on Monday!

Animals and Kids

I like to say that animals and kids go together like peanut butter and jelly. We know it's hard to keep animal books on any shelf, whether it's the library, the classroom, or the bookstore. I'm a little partial to dogs and bears myself.

Here at Enslow we have an abundance of animal titles.  From baby animals to endangered animals, from dog heroes to animals that live in the snow and ice. We've recently added animal titles to our PreK collection because librarians and teachers were asking for them. You can even find books about some of the biggest and smallest animals in the world. And you can't forget about pet care. Whether kids own pets or not, we know they love to read about them.

Remember, today is the last day to enter our Pick-A-Page Giveaway. Go to one of our e-catalogs and pick a page of titles you would like to receive for free. Like us on Facebook and leave a comment on Facebook, letting us know which page you would like to receive. We will choose one winner by random at the end of the week. That winner will be announced on Facebook on Monday!

Enslow Publishers: Putting the Historical back in Historical Fiction!

Here at Enslow Publishers, our goal and motto has always been: "Publishing the Best Nonfiction Books!" With that in mind, when we published our first historical fiction books in 2008, we made sure that our historical fiction closely followed historical fact. With the addition of Captain Hannah Pritchard: The Hunt for Pirate Gold this Fall, our Historical Fiction Adventures series now contains a total of 10 books. Having reached such a nice round number, it seems appropriate to put them all in one place. If any of these (extremely shiny) covers catch your eye, just click one to see more information on the book. Enjoy!

Don't forget about our Pick-A-Page Giveaway this week only. Go to one of our e-catalogs and pick a page of titles you would like to receive for free. Like us on Facebook and leave a comment on Facebook, letting us know which page you would like to receive. We will choose one winner by random at the end of the week. That winner will be announced on Facebook on Monday!

Today starts Enslow's Teen Read Week Book Giveaway!

In order to be eligible to receive a free book from Enslow, we would like your answer to the following question: What's the most popular biography in your library? This doesn't necessarily mean the book that is checked out the most.

We are curious to know what biographies your students/library patrons are most interested in. Post a comment with your answer!

One of the titles that animal-loving employees here enjoy is the biography of Jane Goodall, part of Enslow's Scientists Saving the Earth series.
