New Series: Step Into History

Waiting patiently on my desk over the President's Day weekend were four new books in a new series titled Step Into History. We have never published such heavily illustrated books before and these are gorgeous! Each book centers around an adventure and challenges the reader to:

Command a sailing voyage (Sail!),
Capture a castle (Siege! ),
Lead a Roman army and then build a city (Conquest! ); and
Survive in the Stone Age while hunting the Woolly Mammouth (Hunt!) .

These books are going to be a favorite of your boys (and girls) . The reading level is great for grades three to four. See if you can survive some of the most exciting challenges in history. (The books are published in a large format 9" x 11-1/2", 32 pages, List Price of $22.60 with a discounted price to schools and libraries of $16.95). Here is a link to the series on the enslow.com web page

Congratulations to Matt Kenseth, Daytona 500 winner!

"Congratulations to Matt Kenseth, Daytona 500 winner!"

Guess who just won the Daytona 500!, One of NASCAR's most successful competitors is Matt Kenseth. In 2000, he was named Winston Cup rookie of the year and then won it all in capturing the Nextel Cup championship in 2003—just his fourth year on the circuit. NASCAR watchers expect to see a lot more of Kenseth in the winner's circle in the years to come. Great for reluctant readers! Out of the Top 12 Drivers at the 2009 Daytona 500, we've got 4 drivers in our Heroes of Racing series! Let's hope they all have a great year, and a safe one!

SLJ's Diane Chen has something to say about our 200 Years with Abraham Lincoln book!

200 Years with Abraham Lincoln: One Man's Life and Legacy by Helen Koutras Bozonelis. Enslow. 2008
"This title may be my favorite of the three. It has breadth and depth. The information will last longer than during one year of celebrating. Older students are willing to pick this up to read and research while teachers are reading the previous two titles to classes. In 64 pages this title includes photographs, memorabilia, quotations, and side bars to keep interest high. The layout is clean and the text reads well. Many of the important highlights of Lincoln's life are included. Overall, this was a very satisfying read for an introduction to Lincoln."

An outstanding review for our Barack Obama book from Booklist

“Of the many new biographies of Obama published for youth, very few are targeted for the youngest readers. This title fills that gap with . . . bright, open layouts . . . a . . . timely volume in the African-American Heroes series.”
