ISBN: 978-0-7660-2683-4
Library Bound: $31.93
World AIDS Day is observed December 1st of every year and is dedicated to raising awareness globally about the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. This day, recognized and observed by governments and health officials, was first conceived in Geneva, Switzerland at the World Health Organization.  The very first World AIDS Day was recognized on December 1, 1988. This year’s theme, “Getting to Zero”, describes the desire for zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, and zero AIDS-related deaths.

Enslow’s Fighting the AIDS and HIV Epidemic: A Global Battle, is a relevant title to mark this important day that is acknowledged around the world. Author, Maurene Hinds, discusses how the disease first appeared, treatment options, the future progression of the illness, and its global impact. This socially pertinent selection, part of the Issues in Focus Today series, is an appropriate choice for grades six and up to learn more about this disease that has infected tens of millions of people worldwide.
